Radio Feature Report: Vought, Stare
1st Place: Sgt. Jeremy Vought, DMA Crystal City Marines
The 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack in Beirut was the focus of this feature. The common theme during interviews with survivors of the bombing was that Beirut, not 9/11, was one of the country’s first blows from terrorists. The Navy would not run the story, calling it too controversial, and the Pentagon channel wanted a censored version. The Marines stood their ground and told the story in its original format, first on video and then for radio. It was an honor, said Sergeant Vought, to help our audience remember those many Marines lost to a terror attack 25 years ago.
