Pat Coulter suffers stroke
Update: CC Executive Director spoke directly with Jerie Coulter this morning, Wednesday, October 9. Pat was emceeing the Air Force Association meeting in Washington, DC and, as he finished his opening remarks and, as dinner was being served, he went back stage and collapsed. As Jerie said, “this guy was the healthiest of any we knew, so it came as a complete shock.” According to Jerie he is taking “baby steps” at present; one day good, another not so good. The doctor will perform a tracheotomy tomorrow to enable the breathing tube to be relieved. Because of infection, they will not operate on him to insert a shunt at this time. He is able to recognize people but, obviously because of the breathing tube, he is incapable of speech. Jerie said that when the tube is removed they may have some better idea of the effects of the stroke.
She also said that while he is in intensive care he can have two visitors at time for a very limited visit. One such visitor so far has been the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James Amos, an old friend of Pat’s. CCHQ was advised this morning that Assistant CMC, General John Paxton, is aware of the situation as well.
CCHQ will continue to issue information as it is received from Jerie.
Sadly, CCHQ has learned that our longtime emcee of the Merit Award Banquets, Major Patrick “Graham” Coulter USMC (ret.) suffered a Hemorrhagic Stroke while working an awards ceremony in Washington DC. He was taken to Medstar Washington Hospital and is being treated. The event happened on Sept. 18, 2013.
His family has created a blog to keep everyone updated: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/patrickcoulter. Here you can read his progress and sign his guestbook. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
