Military journalist and production designer wanted

Published by Jason Fudge on

Http://MyServicePride.com is looking for a retired military journalist who may want to help with writing the content for newsletters, Facebook, and more.  It would be a part-time job, with the pay negotiable.  Geography doesn’t matter.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be interested,  send an email with some samples of work to: Bob Massie at bob@myservicepride.com

They are also looking for a production designer, preferably in the Indianapolis area, who has lots of experience in Photoshop and Illustrator.
The company is growing and needs to expand their editorial staff.  They want to work with a military writer/journalist because their content is so “military friendly” that it would be difficult for a non-military person to understand what is of general interest,  and at the same time have an authentic voice.

The challenge, though, is that the editorial staff needs to help drive a commercial operation.  That means that it needs to drive engagement, not just informing. For example: an article on a topic for an e-mail lead also needs to be “subject” copy for an e-mail that bas a link to the article that will reach the most number of people.  If it’s posted on Facebook, it should have  an introductory paragraph that will generate clicks.  The article needs to be as compelling and engaging as possible.

Their Editorial Guidelines are attached to give you  an idea of what the company does.  It describes a bit more aggressive publication calendar than they are able to execute now, but want to expand to.  It envisions a few new pieces a week — short and engaging with as many visuals as possible.  Those pieces would be published in a variety of channels.

Both the framework of their editorial calendar and monthly editorial meeting would determine what subject matter will be produced.

You need a freelancer rate, or a way of charging for your work.

 You will be expected to:

1) Participate in one two-hour editorial planning call every month
2) A weekly update call
3) Research and write up to 20 articles per month
4) Present the articles with the appropriate marketing adaptations, such as subject lines, FB post extracts, tweets, etc.

Additionaly, if you have experience in social media, what would you charge to manage the posts in WordPress, Facebook and Twitter?
