Maj. Gen. Gary Thomas, CG 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point, will represent the Commandant of the Marine Corps as guest of honor at our Distinguished Performance Awards Banquet, August 19 in New Bern, N.C.

With that locked in, President Manny Pacheco announced this week that plans for our 74th anniversary conference are fairly complete.  “I think everything is falling into place nicely,” Pacheco said.  “We have a couple of loose ends but, overall, we will have a great week.”

Pacheco thanked newly-promoted (and CC Life member) Col. Riccoh Player, PAO, MarForCom, Norfolk, and PA Director, Nat Fahy at Camp Lejeune, for helping assure that active duty Marines are aware of the conference and the DPA awards banquet.

Members are reminded that the guaranteed room rate of $90 ended July 17.  CCHQ is working with the Hilton to get an extension but, if you are reading this and have not attempted a reservation, we encourage you to try it quickly!  If you have to cancel your room registration for any reason be advised that the hotel requires cancellation within 72 hours of your arrival.

As announced many weeks ago, due to the lack of bus transportation in the New Bern area, we are limited to one 37 passenger bus for the trip to Camp Lejeune on Tuesday, August 18.  In all of our announcements we stressed the fact that the first 37 to register would take priority on this bus.  This does not mean that you will necessarily be excluded from the trip.  Some will cancel at the last minute.  Also, there will be member-owned vehicles that will be able to carry any overflow.

Dress for the DPA banquet Wednesday evening will be service “alpha” for Marines, appropriate business attire (coat and tie) for men and appropriate cocktail attire for ladies.
