Looking for Sgt R. E. Staff

Published by Jason Fudge on

I need your assistance in locating a Marine Corps combat correspondent, and  an article in the old SEA TIGER.  Hopefully, the correspondent is still  alive. During January 1969, in Vietnam, he was known as Sgt R. E. STAFF.  His  service number is 2311049.  He was attached to HqBn, 1st Mar Div (Rein)  FMF.
I also need your help regarding an issue of the infamous SEA TIGER.   Sgt STAFF wrote an article about me after I discovered a sophisticated mine and  booby-trap factory in the Dodge City/Arizona territory-south of Da Nang.  I  believe the title was “VC Lose Another One”.  The SEA TIGER issue was Vol.  V, No.3, III Marine Amphibious Force, January 17, 1969.  I believe the  article appeared on page eight.  Sgt STAFF referred to me as Sgt  RUTHERFORD, Plt Sgt/Plt Cmdr, 1st Plt, Echo Co, 2/1, from Omaha, Nebraska.   Unfortunately, I lost the article during one of my many two-career moves.   I’m aware that one can purchase a CD of SEA TIGER issues through December,  1968.  Obviously, this CD would not help me in my search.
I have had the privilege of serving with many of your members.  Among  them are [Jerry Broeckert, LtCol (Ret)]. Jerry was a  MCADCOP student with me at Palomar College, CA, around 1972; Dale Dye (in OCS  together); and of course Sgt Staff.  A very special thanks to all for your  service.
