Johnson Jr.: PR executive and Korean War vet dies
Frank S. Johnson Jr., a public relations and communications executive who worked under three U.S. presidents and for corporate, financial and not-for-profit organizations, died Jan. 12 at his home in Falls Church after a heart attack. He was 80.
Mr. Johnson led public affairs departments for the Labor Department under President Richard Nixon, the U.S. Postal Service and NASA under President Ronald Reagan, and the U.S. Information Agency under President George H.W. Bush.
Mr. Johnson also had worked for Revlon, General Dynamics and Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., a builder of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers that is now owned by Northrop Grumman.
At the time of his death, Mr. Johnson was chief executive and proprietor of Johnson Group Management, a small consulting firm in Falls Church, and Audio Diversions, an Internet firm that rented and sold audiobooks.
Frank Stanley Johnson Jr. was born in New York City and graduated from Indiana University. He served in the Marine Corps as a combat correspondent during the Korean War, and for two years afterward in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was Life member of the USMCCCA.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 3115 P Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20007. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made in his memory to Georgetown Presbyterian Church or Manhattanville College, Kenneth F.
