I am writing a book on the history of the NBC News Documentary Unit based at the
Washington Bureau.  It started in 1961 with the production of David Brinkley’s
Journal.  Ted Yates was the lead producer.  In 1963 they began to produce
documentaries on foreign affairs and military conflicts.  On the first day of
the Six-Day War in Jerusalem in 1967, he was shot and killed.  My book covers
his career leading up to NBC, including service as a Marine Combat
Correspondent, and the life of the unit after Yates died.  During the Korean
War, Yates reportedly served in Korea with a Marshall Stone.  Any additional
information any of your members has would be most helpful in to me in writing a
brief history of the role of the combat correspondent during Korea and Yates’s
part in it.
