Gee wins MCL Distinguished Citizen Gold Award
Don Gee was awarded the Distinguished Citizens Medal Gold by the Marine Corps League’s National Commandant, James Laskey on April 23. Below is his citation:
“… Marine Don H. Gee has been involved in many League activities along with many outside organizations and activities. Marine Gee has held every Detachment office and in the past has held offices at the Department and National levels. He is currently the Detachment Adjutant/Paymaster, Public Relations Officer and Newsletter Editor. He is a member and has been active in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Division Associations. He is also a life member of the American Legion, VFW and the Marine Corps Association. He is a Legion of Honor Member of the Chapel of Four Chaplains. He is a member of the Combat Correspondents Association and is the first person to hold the offices ofChainnan ofthe Board of Directors and President concurrently.
As for his involvement in civic and community organizations, he served on the VAVS Executive Committee for the Philadelphia VA Medical Center and was Special Assistant for the Medical Center Director for 4 years. He also was Deputy Representative for the Marine Corps League for 2 years. He was on the Bucks County World War II Memorial Committee serving as fund Raiser and Public Affairs Officer for 14 months. He was the Doylestown Township Community Service and Veterans Memorial Initiator and Founding Member. He served as its Public Affair Officer and Fund Raiser for 8 years until the memorial was completed. He was the driving force behind the United Veterans of Doylestown; an organization that includes all of the veterans’ organizations in Doylestown, Pennsylvania for the sole purpose of making sure the Memorial Day Parade has a sponsor after the Township would no longer sponsor the parade. The UVD, now in its 5th year, is the sole sponsor of that parade which is 143 years old and provides all of the surrounding communities a place where their veterans can be recognized.
Marine Gee has been the Parade Coordinator and Parade Marshall during that time. Without Marine Gee’s leadership and detennination this parade would no longer exist. He is currently working on the New Britain Township Memorial Committee as this is being written.
Due to his tireless work, dedication and driving spirit over a long period of time, Marine Gee, in my opinion represents the best of being a Marine and is what every Marine should strive to be. I respectfully request that Marine Gee be considered for the Distinguished Citizen Gold Award.”
