Former Marines discarded

In a recent CMC “Bullets” we found it interesting that the CMC clarified something that many of us old timers run into time and again, usually  from non-Marine types:  “Hey, you’re an ex-Marine.”  Most of us would reply:  “No, we’re former Marines.”    This from new Commandant, Gen. Jim Amos:

“I set the policy about two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. So there’s no such thing s a former Marine.”
