Florida Chapter Members Attend National Conference
Nine members of the Florida Chapter USMCCCA attended the national conference recently in Hampton, Virginia. Jack and Pat Paxton came from Wildwood, FL, Kate Stark from Gainsville, FL, Bob McEwen from Indian Shores, FL, Allen Moore from Altamonte Springs, FL, Tom and Sheila Kerr from Niceville, FL, Red and Ann Carpenter from Spring Hill, FL, Hank and Trudy Ehlbeck from Port Orange, FL, Chuck and Mary Beveridge from Birmingham, AL, and Mawk and Alice Arnold from Daphne, AL. Needless to say the Florida Chapter’s presence was felt in many ways.
As you know Jack Paxton is the Association’s Executive Director, Kate Stark (received the President’s Award) is the Webmaster and put on one heck of a class for us old timers not too conversant on computers and computer terminology. Kate’s notes from the class, forty two pages of them, are now available for all on the website. Allen Moore brought all of his equipment and did one whale of a job as DJ nightly in the Hospitality Suite. Incidently, the HS was probably the best one we have ever had and the entertainment was super. Chuck Beveridge is our National Art Director and puts out the best journal we have ever had , Tom Kerr ( received the Dickson Award) is our National Treasurer, Mawk Arnold is our National Chaplain and Hank Ehlbeck is VP of the Florida Chapter.
During the conference and during a slack time, noon on Thursday 17 Sept, the Florida Chapter held its third quarter meeting. All of those mentioned above attended as did former Florida Chapter charter member, Don O’Neal now the President of the USMCCCA Foundation. The minutes are available here. Following the meeting, pizza and drinks were enjoyed by all before hurrying back to the afternoon seminars.
During the National Association business meeting the Florida Chapter presented a check to the Foundation for its profit in the Chapter sponsored annual golf tournament. The Chapter supports a “Support Troops” effort in Tampa, a Marine Corps League Golf Tournament in DeLand, Florida and the Marine Corps Monument being erected in Orlando, FL.
The Florida Chapter is dedicated, engaged and active. If you live in Florida or near Florida, join us. We’re doing good things and enjoying it at the same time. — Red Carpenter
