Happy Birthday later this month to USMCCCA Tribal Elder and proven Association workhorse Don Knight in Kensington, Maryland.

Don, who will be 95 on June 25, was born and raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and upon graduation from high school, he and five classmates “escaped” the draft by joining the U.S. Marines and shipping out to the South Pacific at the height of World War II.

After the war, he leveraged his G.I. Bill to earn a journalism degree from Boston University, then writing for daily newspapers in Pennsylvania and Virginia and for non-profits in the Washington, D.C. area and elsewhere.

Other than being called back for Korea (he flew to Cherry Point, North Carolina for in-processing with Boston Red Sox great Ted Williams) his has been “the writing life” and, until just a very few years ago, “the tennis life” with his active wife, Phyllis.

But even without a racket, Don stays as fit as he can — and he still writes.

NOTE: Feel free to send a birthday card to Don Knight, 9507 Culver St., Kensington, MD 20895.
