Dan Clare is a former enlisted Marine who currently serves as a senior communications specialist for the Disabled American Veterans.  At DAV, he directs the production of written, electronic, photographic and digital media, including DAV Magazine, and web content.  Through media relations, social networking, PSAs and other campaigns, he spreads the word about the service and sacrifices of veterans and DAV’s no-cost services.

Clare’s experience in the Corps includes writing, broadcasting, and newspaper editing.  He worked as a civilian editor for the Orange County Register when the Flight Jacket newspaper transitioned from El Toro to Miramar.  He also has worked in advertising and branding.

Concurrent with his time at DAV, Clare enlisted in the Air National Guard.  He supported the airlift of FEMA teams to McGuire AFB, New Jersey, on Sept. 11, 2001, and was activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom in September, 2007. For this wartime service, including coverage of the largest combat hospital in theater, he was named Air National Guard Print Journalist of the Year.

Clare said he finds the prospect of serving as the USMCCCA’s president a humbling honor.

“The work that the Association does and its relevance to Marine strategic communicators are of vital importance.  The Association needs to evolve fulfill its missions and support its constituents in changing times. The challenges we face are real, but by listening to our constituents, leveraging resources, and putting in the effort we can build upon what’s been established and move the organization in a direction that best serves the interests of our unique military community,” Clare said.
