Guenther went along with 20 Marines who took the Challenge Course at Darton College in Albany. The tower climb was one of five exercises forcing team members to work together to solve problems.

2nd Place Contribution by a Contractor/Stringer Photographer is Art Powell: The United States Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment will treat citizens of Albany and the entire surrounding community as well as base personnel attending, to a sensational performance tonight at 7 p.m., at the Albany James H. Gray Sr. Civic Center. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Maj. Gen. Willie J. Williams, commanding general, Marine Corps Logistics Command, is sponsoring the event. Albany Mayor Willie Adams is the guest of honor for this year’s ceremony. The BCD, assigned to Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., is comprised of the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, known as the “The Commandant’s Own,” the Silent Drill Platoon and the Marine Corps Color Guard. The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps will play their mix of contemporary/patriotic music and display traditional marching. However, the precision of the Silent Drill Platoon is expected to be the crescendo of the event. The annual performance provides base personnel, local officials, Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps units and members of the local and surrounding communities an opportunity to see an outstanding ensemble of musical and drill performance excellence. From the youngest ROTC member, to the oldest spectator, the Battle Color Ceremony will evoke pride and awe, and project the honor, courage and commitment of all military personnel past and present. In addition, there will be a display of Marine vehicles prior to the ceremony for spectators to enjoy. Also, attendees are asked to bring a toy to support the Toys for Tots kick-off drive.
Honorable Mention by a Contractor/Stringer Photographer is Joel C. Guenther: A veritable plethora of Marine Corps players for the Marine Corps Rugby Team, catches a lone Army player with the ball during their game as part of the Armed Forces Rugby Championship on Nov. 19. The series was held at Ft. Benning, Ga., Nov. 16-20, placing teams from the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard in spirited competition.
