Chris Whiting — Candidate for Secretary
Editors note: The following candidates are running unopposed and will be elected at the annual business meeting, Aug. 19-23 in Atlanta, after slate is approved by voting members.
Chris Whiting is currently serving her twentieth term as the USMCCCA Secretary. She retired from active duty in 1999 as a gunnery sergeant.
During her 20-year Marine Corps career, she held various Public Affairs billets such as photojournalist, editor, press chief, community relations chief and internal information chief. Personal career highlights include riding in the Blue Angels’ Fat Albert C-130 support aircraft during a Jet Assisted Take-Off and meeting numerous Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipients while stationed at RS Sacramento. She spent the majority of her time supporting recruiting at 6th Marine Corps District Headquarters and Recruiting Station Sacramento.
She has been a member of the USMCCCA since she won her first Distinguished Performance Award in 1981 and cherishes the friends she gained by attending numerous conferences and symposia over the years.
Whiting attended the Navy Photojournalism Program at Syracuse University in 1981-82. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communication at the State University of New York College at Oneonta.
During her upcoming term as Secretary, Whiting aims to use her years of experience in the Association to be a bridge for communication and support between the younger generation of members and the CC tribal elders.
