Pull up: A Marine attached to Marine Detachment Fort Meade, Md., completes the final pull-ups during the Squad of the Month competition aboard the installation Jan. 28, 2011. The Marines, students at the Defense Information School, competed over the course of the month and were judged on grade point averages, professional military education, Marine Corps knowledge, inspections and physical fitness. Fourth squad, lead by PFC Emmanuel Ramos, edged out the competition by seven points.Pack: Cpl. Ricky Robinson, a still photographer and platoon sergeant with Marine Detachment Fort Meade, Md., shoulders a weighted down pack during the Squad of the Month competition aboard the installation Jan. 28, 2011. Marines had to reach four check points and answer Marine Corps Knowledge questions correctly. For incorrect answers, the squads had to carry additional items like the pack, ammo cans and water jugs to the finish line.
Combat Camera Management sends their thoughts and prayers to Lance Corporal Jorge Ortiz and his family. Combat photographer LCpl Ortiz sustained injuries while in the line of duty in Afghanistan.
