Job Summary:
The National Adjutant, with the consent of the National Commander, appoints the position of Associate National Communications Director, National Headquarters. This position reports to the DAV’s National Communications Director for a variety of public relations and internal communications programs.
Essential Functions:
• Serve as a member of the editorial team that produces DAV Magazine.
• Assist in setting and implementing the public relations agenda for the DAV National Organization, responding to media queries as needed. This includes preparation and distribution of DAV news releases, op-ed pieces, commentaries and features.
• Research and prepare monthly material for print and online use as assigned to support key functions within the organization.
• Assist in creating brochures, fact sheets, position papers, posters, and other materials in support of DAV initiatives and functions.
• Provide video, print and photo coverage of DAV events and members for use in DAV public relations and internal communications outlets; develop A/V presentations for use by various DAV management staff as needed.
• Assist in writing official biographies, maintaining an up-to-date file of biographies for use in the DAV’s public relations programs.
• Research and write content for DAV National Directors, speeches, and talking points.
• Assist in analyzing and executing the DAV social media strategy through prescribed platforms.
• Assist the National Communications Director with correspondence and articles related to DAV Magazine, as well as other administrative tasks at DAV National Headquarters.

Essential Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or a writing-based discipline in the liberal arts; however, in the absence of a degree, must have comparable combination of experience and training.
• A minimum of three years practical experience in the communications field is preferred. This experience should include public relations, as well as journalistic work.
• Must possess exceptionally strong talent in written and verbal communication, particularly in the areas of journalism and speech writing.
• Solid interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with public officials and other ranking persons.
• Extensive computer skills – MS Office applications, basic knowledge of HTML, other web technologies, social media platforms, and photo and video editing software.
• A demonstrated ability to work independently, and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Position requires the physical ability and stamina to perform under mental stress.
