USS McClung (LSM-1) Named in Honor of Maj. Megan McClung
We are proud to share that the U.S. Navy has named its first Medium Landing Ship (LSM) the USS McClung (LSM-1), in honor of Maj. Megan McClung.
This recognition reflects her dedication and service, and it underscores the vital role of public affairs in military operations. The USS McClung will enhance the Marine Corps’ amphibious capabilities, embodying the spirit and commitment that Maj. McClung demonstrated throughout her career.
Maj. McClung was a distinguished public affairs officer. She was the first female Marine officer killed in Iraq and the first female Naval Academy graduate to die in combat.
