Veteran public relations and communications professional Fred Lash has joined Military Historical Tours, Inc. (MHT) as its Vice President for Communications.

A career Marine officer, Fred’s first assignment was as a platoon commander with the 26th Marines in South Vietnam.  He later served as a reconnaissance company commander and battalion executive officer with the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa.  He also was a company commander at both the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, Maryland and Marine Barracks, Washington, DC (8th and I).  Later, he was assigned as the director of the Joint Public Affairs Bureau in Beirut, Lebanon (1983) and spokesman at the Defense Department for Latin American Affairs from 1984-1986.

A Silver Owl member (25 years) of the National Press Club, Fred has also been an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) since 1988.

“Not only is Fred regarded as a consummate communicator who has years of experience with both national and international news media, but he also is extremely knowledgeable of veterans organizations and their members’ needs, interests, and concerns,” said MHT founder and CEO Colonel Warren Wiedhahn, USMC (Retired).

Fred has worked with, or held posts in, numerous organizations that are military- or defense-related throughout the past years, including the National Defense Industrial Association, Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, and the National Marine Corps Council.  Most recently, he served as the Director of Communication for the Korean War Veterans Association.

A recognized writer, Fred is a frequent contributor to the Marine Corps Gazette and Leatherneck magazines and has been a source of information for several publications including the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Washington Times, Marine Corps Times, and Foreign Affairs.

Fred continues to plan and conduct media and cultural training for senior officials in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security; students in the program management course at the Defense Acquisition University; and officers attending the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

“To have a proven and seasoned public relations guru with so much interest in military history on our staff is definitely a win-win for MHT,” noted Wiedhahn.

For more than 30 years, Military Historical Tours, the oldest American Veteran- owned and operated battlefield tour company, has pursued a vision of providing opportunities to visit battlefields and offer various perspectives of America’s past conflicts.  MHT is proud to assist America’s veterans, historians, educators, students, and others interested in walking the ground of history’s greatest battles.  MHT places you “where history comes alive.”
