Second Lieutenant 2nd Lt. Brian A. Tuthill recently commissioned as a Marine Corps officer May 12 at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA to earn a bachelor of science in Public Management & Policy, and was selected as his university’s Naval ROTC unit’s distinguished Marine officer graduate.

At his NROTC unit, he served in multiple billets, including assistant operations officer, communications officer, pre-OCS development course lead instructor and New Student Orientation operations officer.

He also trained midshipmen in photography and other public affairs fundamentals, leading to the unit’s informal recognition as the top university NROTC content production team.

Tuthill, a former gunnery sergeant selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program in 2014, has served 14 years in the Marine Corps, including a tour as an instructor at the Defense Information School.

In April 2017, his daughter was born in Tucson. His wife, Tiffany, hails from Phoenix and he is a San Diego native, so the couple was happy to be near enough for family to visit often during his time in MECEP.

Tuthill will begin The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, in September and intends to return to the career field next year as a CommStrat officer serving in the operating forces.
