It was on my return the other day from the 4th Division reunion at Charleston, SC, when I was finally able to stop at the Denig Memorial. It was a busy week getting my Son settled in at UNC Chapel Hill on the way down, and capped off with a visit to Norm Hatch in Alexandria on my way home. Being stuck in traffic on I-95 north in the Quantico vicinity was the signal for me to stop, even if it was almost 6:00 pm. Thank goodness the Museum grounds were still open.

I am very pleased with the memorial overall. And for the fact that my Uncle’s name was placed so prominently in front of General Denig’s image. Since my Uncle opted to be cremated, he has no grave marker. Perhaps there is a tribute to him at an art museum somewhere in Greece, I doubt that there is any memorial with Theo Hios’ name elsewhere in the United States. This means a lot to me.
