Seeking entries for Merit Awards in Combat Art and Illustration
ATTENTION MARINE COMBAT ARTISTS AND ILLUSTRATORS!
The U.S. Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association shall render Merit Awards in the categories of Combat Art and Illustration at the 68th Annual USMCCCA Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Hampton, Va. on Thursday night Sept. 17. First and Second Place Awards and an Honorable Mention in both categories shall be recognized. Traditionally, award recipients travel to the conference on command-funded orders to personally accept their plaque (first place) or certificate (second place and honorable mention). Eligibility: any active duty Marine or Marine reservist who was in a duty status at the time the art or illustration was created.
Criteria: work must have been publicly displayed (art show, MCX lobby, etc.) or produced in support of command operational or training requirements (posters, leaflets, etc.). Products must be unclassified and rendered during CY08. Media may include sculpture, paintings, drawings and illustrations in both color and black and white. Computer graphics will be considered, but art used must be the Marine’s original work.
Number of entries: an individual may submit no more than two (2) Combat Art entries and two (2) Illustration entries. Each entry must be accompanied by a brief description of the circumstances surrounding the work, e.g, “I drew this while on a convoy on my way to Fallujah” or “I produced this poster in support of the command’s efforts to eradicate drinking and driving, ” etc.

l. Mail or otherwise deliver materials to Scott Woosley, Chairman, Art and Illustration Categories, USMCCCA, 1050 Conewago Rd., Dover, PA 17315. 2. Entries must include (a) complete name, rank, unit and home address, (b) work and alternate e-mail addresses and telephone numbers, (c) the name, rank, e-mail address and telephone numbers of your OIC and NCOIC and (d) a color or black and white photo of yourself (either “candid” or head-and-shoulders shot in “official portrait” mode) and (e) a brief biography including, at a minimum, hometown, education and Marine Corps service highlights.
